VRF-Lite — two customers on one router

Define VRFs CUST-A and CUST-B on a single CE-style router. Bind one interface to each VRF; demonstrate that the two customers' routing tables are isolated even though they share the device.

Scenario

VRF-Lite is "MPLS-VPN without MPLS" — the per-VRF routing table separation, but no PE-PE label-switched path. Use cases: - Multi-tenant edge: one router serves two customers; their RIBs must not leak. - Management-plane separation: a MGMT VRF carries SSH/SNMP/syslog independently of user data. - Pre-MPLS L3VPN staging: define VRFs on CEs first; add MP-BGP later. In this lab the same physical router carries two customer-facing interfaces. Each is bound to its own VRF; show ip route vrf confirms isolation.

Topology

1 × router · Cisco IOS-style

What you will do

  1. Define two VRFs: ip vrf CUST-A (with RD 65001:1) and ip vrf CUST-B (with RD 65001:2).

  2. Bind Gi0/0 to VRF CUST-A (10.0.0.1/24) and Gi0/1 to VRF CUST-B (also 10.0.0.1/24 — same prefix in different VRFs is fine).
