Scenario
DHCP (RFC 2131) automates IP assignment to hosts. A Cisco router can act as the server itself — you create a pool and exclude the statically assigned addresses. With ip address dhcp on the client, link-up triggers the DISCOVER → OFFER → REQUEST → ACK exchange.
Topology
2 × router, 1 × switch · Cisco IOS-style
R1— routerHUB— switchCLIENT— router
What you will do
On R1, exclude 10.0.0.1 from the DHCP pool.
Create DHCP pool
LAN: network 10.0.0.0/24, default-router 10.0.0.1.Once everything is in place the server hands CLIENT an address from the pool. Verify.
